New safety gloves add protection for ice-skaters
Hunter Sportswear has launched a safety glove for ice-skaters with the highest - class five - cut resistance, made using Dyneema Diamond technology, a patented fibre from DSM Dyneema.
The yarn has a cut resistance twice as high as regular high molecular polyethylene yarn and the gloves offer a level of protection similar to that provided by gloves reinforced with fibreglass or steel, according to the company.
Hunter spokesperson Jeroen de Vries said: “Ice-skating is a wonderful sport, but it is not without danger. Having worked with DSM Dyneema before, we realised that class five was attainable without the use of glass or significant loss of dexterity.
“Just like cyclists have accepted the need for bicycle helmets, both professional and recreational ice-skaters are looking increasingly for greater levels of protection. Over the next five years or so we will see a growing demand for protective sportswear.”
