Winners of Outdoor Inspiration Awards announced

Timbuk2,NOLS: Expedition Denali, Timmy O’Neil  and Jeff Lowe have been announced as winners of the fourth Outdoor Inspiration Awards, organised by adidas Outdoor and held during Outdoor Retailer trade show in Salt Lake City on January 25.

The awards recognise individuals, groups and companies whose efforts are breaking ground and encouraging others to participate in outdoor activities. 

Mr Lowe, who won a lifetime achievement award, is an alpinist from Utah and is known for his visionary climbs and first ascents in the US and Canadian Rockies, Alps and Himalayas. His goal is to promote and develop the climbing potential around Utah and he runs programmes enabling underprivileged children and those with disabilities to enjoy the climbing experience.

Company winnerTimbuk2, inventor of messenger bag in 1989, has been a supporter of Bike to Work Month in the US each May, reflecting the company’s dedication to promoting the positive benefits of cycling. 

Group winner Expedition Denali inspires young people to get outside, get active, and become stewards of wild places. 

Co-founder of Paradox Sports Mr O’Neill is changing the lives of adaptive athletes and war veterans with opportunities like climbing the Grand Teton, paddling the Colorado River or scaling El Capitan. He studied to be an ophthalmic technician and travels every year to Africa to help a team of doctors restore sight to the blind.
