Outdoor Retailer selects outdoor inspiration finalists

Organisers of US-based trade fair Outdoor Retailer (OR) have announced the finalists for this year’s Outdoor Inspiration Awards, the winners of which will be announced at the show later this month.

The awards, sponsored by adidas Outdoor, recognise individuals, groups and companies whose efforts are above and beyond in inspiring others to enjoy, participate in and support outdoor activities.
This year’s categories were expanded to include retailers, non-profits and youth.

“Working with Outdoor Retailer, we established this programme to honour those within our industry that provide avenues and programmes to encourage people to participate in outdoor activities,” said Greg Thomsen, managing director for adidas Outdoor US. “These finalists are wonderful examples and their work is critical to the growth of our community.”

The individual finalists are Lizette Perez, Jeremy Collins and Sarah Knapp. Manufacturer finalists are Jackson Kayak, Patagonia and Coleman.National Interscholastic Cycling Association, Venture Prep Girls, Four Corners School of Outdoor Education and Leave No Trace are vying for the non-profit award.

Among retailers, The Mountaineer, REI and Campmor were selected. The youths up for the prize are Matt Moniz  Tucker Cullen and Charlotte Christensen while the lifetime achievement award goes to John Roskelley, a noted mountain climber and author from Washington. He is known for his first ascents and of 7,000 and 8,000m peaks in Nepal, India and Pakistan.

The awards will be presented during Outdoor Retailer Winter Market at the Salt Palace Convention Centre on January 22 from 6pm.
