Increased outdoor focus for ‘extremely positive’ ISPO

Trade show ISPO Munich has reported a record number of exhibitors plus a strong increase in visitors from the US and Russia.

The Germany-based show, which ran from January 26 to 29, 2014, welcomed a similar number of visitors to last year – 88,000 – with two-thirds visiting from abroad.

“The atmosphere was very good,” said Klaus Dittrich, chairman of fair organiser Messe München. “All statistics are extremely positive.”

The record 2,565 exhibitors from 51 countries was a 3% increase on 2013, and exhibition space was increased by 1,500m2 to 104,720m2.

Mammut CEO Rolf Schmid said the focus on the outdoor segment is increasing. “The trade show went well for us. The frequency of visitors was high and our discussions positive.”

Two-thirds of visitors rated the show ‘excellent to very good’ and 24% said it was ‘good’. Half said ISPO would grow in importance in the coming 12 months, while the remainder thought the event’s significance would remain the same.

Stefan Wahlén, managing director of Patagonia Europe, said: “What we noticed is that ISPO Munich is increasingly turning into a multi-segment exhibition. Every brand is there, resembling a multi-brand store.”
