Outdoor brand Mammut has celebrated the upcoming 150th anniversary of the first ascent of the Matterhorn by mapping out the route in red lights.

Its sponsored athletes and climbers wore headlamps on their climbing helmets, while at other points, lamps were installed by mountain guides from the nearby town of Zermatt.

July 2015 will mark the 150th anniversary of the achievements of Edward Whymper's rope team, who climbed the Alpine mountain in very different conditions. “The guys who did the first ascent were pretty crazy,” said Mammut athlete David Fasel. “They had different material, hardly any crampons, shoes with nails and hemp ropes.”
