Asian demand leads to growth for Mammut

Swiss outdoor brand Mammut has reported a 6.2% growth in sales in 2013, driven by increases in all markets as customers reacted well to new product categories.

Revenues reached CHF 246.9 million ($278 million), but were affected by currency fluctuations, in particular the weak yen in Japan. On a currency neutral basis, sales rose 7.8%

Footwear was the biggest contributor to revenues. A new clothing and footwear line for trailrunners was “very well received”.

Sales of established products such as Barryvox and the avalanche airbag protection system increased and the company said the Swiss market was on an upward curve.

It partnered a company in China to tap the growing market there and initial sales "exceeded expectations". Revenues from Japan grew in double-digits.

Mannut opened 14 new monobrand stores last year, with outlets now totalling 68. A policy introduced in 2013 states dealers must be able to give advice on products if they wish to sell the gear.
