PrimaLoft partner to make new fabrics in Japan

Launched in January at the 2014 Outdoor Retailer Winter Market exhibition in Salt Lake City, the Performance Fabric collection consists of a broad range of technical knits, primarily developed for base layer applications.
“Performance and comfort are the hallmarks of PrimaLoft insulating products, and it made sense to extend our technology into a line of performance fabrics,” said Joe Rumiesz, the company’s outgoing vice-president. “Mitsui, who is known for its tremendous expertise in the design and manufacture of fabrics, has been a long-term partner in Japan and we are grateful for its collaboration.”
The fabric collection is categorised into Gold and Silver groupings to distinguish each fabric’s specific performance and potential end-use.
The high-performance Gold group includes knits positioned as PrimaLoft Performance Fabric Heat or PrimaLoft Performance Fabric Dry. The Heat collection delivers high levels of comfort and temperature-regulating properties, and the Dry collection offers moisture management and rapid drying characteristics.
The Silver group features Merino wool-poly blends along with other knits constructed of technical fibres and advanced materials to provide moisture management, softness and comfort within a broad range of activities and weather conditions.
“Initial feedback on the fabrics has been great,” said Joy Gruver, head of business development at Mitsui Bussan Techno. “Brand designers we’ve met with who use PrimaLoft products view the new fabrics as a natural fit and reinforcement to the PrimaLoft story, which is all about comfort and performance.”
