Ingeo supplier builds Asia-Pacific headquarters

NatureWorks, the supplier of Ingeo biopolymers, has opened its first Asia Pacific regional headquarters in Bangkok and has expanded its team of senior commercial, managerial and technical personnel.

"In many parts of Asia, most notably China, Korea, Japan and Taiwan, as in North America and Europe, Ingeo is already helping brand owners lower the carbon footprint of their plastic and fibre products," said Marc Verbruggen, CEO of  NatureWorks. "The opening of our first Asian headquarters is an important move as we add support for current customers and introduce Ingeo to many more."

Fibre and fabric suppliers in Europe that are working with Ingeo include Radici, Italy’s Miroglio and Germany’s Trevira.

Viboon Pungprasert, the new general manager of NatureWorks Asia Pacific, will manage the business from Bangkok. He said: "We plan to add warehousing and logistics capabilities, which will improve our supply chain by providing safety stock and the flexibility to ship product samples, fibres and provide brand owners' new cradle-to-cradle options after the use of their products.”

NatureWorks is jointly owned by Thailand's largest chemical producer, PTT Global Chemical, and Cargill, an international producer and marketer of food, agricultural, financial, and industrial products and services.

Over the past several years, NatureWorks has seen 25- to 30% increases in annual product demand. In the last two years, NatureWorks doubled its Ingeo supply availability by boosting capacity at its US processing facility and is building a second production plant in Thailand, which is expected to come online in 2015.
