Textile partners have high expectations of space project

Just a few days before the start of his mission at the International Space Station, textile experts from the Hohenstein Institute in Germany and from Schoeller Textil in Switzerland reminded German astronaut Dr Alexander Gerst that they expect valuable research results from the exercise.

Dr Gerst will wear functional textiles from Schoeller Textil during the six-month mission, which launches on May 28 from the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. His experience of wearing the textiles in a weightless environment is expected to shed new light on the interaction between clothing, climate and the human body.

Schoeller Textil founder, Hans-Jürgen Hübner, said in the build-up to the launch: "Future astronauts will benefit from this work. We’ll also make sure that people here on Earth who push the limits of their physical endurance or have to deliver peak performance in extreme conditions benefit as well.”
