Patagonia walks away from shoes

16/07/2014
An agreement under which Wolverine Worldwide made footwear under the Patagonia brand has come to an end and the California-based outdoor company has said it has no plants to replace the arrangement.

In a conference call presentation following its results for the second quarter of this year, Wolverine said it had ended its licensing agreement with Patagonia. It said Patagonia was “a wonderful brand” but its footwear lines were generating too little money for Wolverine, which wants to focus on “more meaningful growth opportunities”.

Patagonia later confirmed the news and said it had no plans to ask any other manufacturing partner to make shoes for now, adding that it may consider applying the brand name to footwear at some point in the future.
