Rising production costs in China and India are bringing about a reconsideration of apparel companies’ priorities, according to the vice-president of textiles at exhibition organiser Messe Frankfurt, who says transparency in the textile supply chain, optimum technical integration and corporate social responsibility are replacing price as the most important production criterion.

As well as interest in the Texprocess and Source It shows from new Asian companies, Olaf Schmidt said: “The production of fashions and garments is being shifted back to Europe. Much better represented in 2013 compared to 2011 were, for example, companies from Egypt, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Poland, Portugal and Serbia. Countries from East and South Europe and the Maghreb score through flexibility and short transport distances.”

Given the demand for environmentally friendly and socially fair production in the garment sector, Source it will focus on social standards and labels in 2015. Texprocess will take place between May 4 and 7, 2015, in Frankfurt, Germany.
