US and European apparel firms stand firm on T-TIP

01/10/2014
The American Apparel and Footwear Association(AAFA) has joined the European Branded Clothing Alliance (EBCA) and the US Fashion Industry Association (USFIA) in a joint letter concerning the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (T-TIP) issued to negotiators convened in the US for the seventh round talks.

Central to the parties’ stance is the elimination of tariffs and flexibility on ‘rules of origin’, which cover which part of the garment (cut-and-sew or yarn forward) needs to originate in the country for the rules to apply.

AAFA will present to negotiators today (October 1) in Chevy Chase, Maryland, during the stakeholder session.

The priorities outlined in the joint paper include mechanisms to facilitate regulatory convergence and the mutual recognition of standards.
