Ortovox launches new chapter on avalanche safety
Germany-based mountain clothing and equipment provider Ortovox has launched a new series of information guides to help people stay safe while climbing or skiing.

They are part of a wider collection that it calls its Safety Academy Lab, a series of interactive tutorials that convey information about avalanches, how they start and how to react to them.

This new chapter, chapter five in the series, covers information about emergency situations on the mountain, from providing first-aid to injured parties, to building a snow cave as an emergency shelter, to instructing a helicopter.

There are four films to make the scenarios easier to visualise and Ortovox has even developed three different quizzes on the topic to allow mountain enthusiasts to test their knowledge. Prizes include Ortovox avalanche backpacks and avalanche transceivers.

The company has also set up a series of free safety academy courses, with 150 places available on a first-come-first-served basis.
