India’s Reliance expands reach with Chinese joint venture
India-based fibre and yarn manufacturer Reliance Industries has entered into a joint venture with Chinese textile firm Shandong Ruyi Science and Technology Group (Ruyi).
Ruyi’s brands include Taylor & Lodge, Harris Tweed and Aquascutum.
Nikhil Meswani, executive director of Reliance, said: “Our joint venture will help Reliance reposition its textile business on a high growth path. Our partner’s deep commitment and global reach in textile business will enable this JV to harness the growth potential of the Indian market and emerge as a global textile player.”
In April, Reliance commissioned a new polyester filament yarn facility in Silvassa, taking the group’s total production capacity to 1.5 million tonnes per year.
