Berlin-based footwear show Bread & Butter has cancelled January edition has been cancelled after failing to secure enough exhibitors, “not least due to self-inflicted turbulences".

After weeks of speculation, the show’s managing director, Karl-Heinz Müller, said: “I am convinced of the fact that our success concept cannot be continued by repeating the past. Maybe something great has to end so that something new can arise.

“Our whole fashion industry is at a point of radical change. This is why challenges of the future have to be met with new solutions.

“For now, I would like to express my gratitude to all those who have supported and accompanied us in the last 14 years, above all to my numerous long-term employees and business partners. I owe special thanks to those in charge in the cities of Berlin and Barcelona.”

At the start of 2012, the show it announced it was streamlining the exhibitors. “We will only accept brands and labels enjoying the necessary acceptance in the community,” said Mr Muller at the time.

However, he adds now that it is not the end for Bread & Butter:  “We will return."
