Outlast and Thai partner launch second-generation version of PCM acrylic fibre

Specialist phase change materials (PCM) provider to the textile industry Outlast has announced a new version of its PCM acrylic fibre.

Working with Bangkok-based partner the Thai Acrylic Fiber Company, Outlast said it had succeeded in developing a second-generation version of the product. Using a non-encapsulated system rather than an encapsulated one, Outlast says it has been able to make the new PCM acrylic fibre perform four times better than its predecessor by incorporating a higher volume of PCM.

It has said that the fibre blends well with wool and it anticipates successful garment applications, especially in products such as socks, underwear and pull-overs.

Martin Benz, who added the role of global president of Outlast to his position as managing director of Outlast Europe at the start of this year, has told sportstextiles.com that other recent textile applications that Outlast has added to its range include a series of blends with down and fill materials to help outdoor brands add performance but not weight to garments such as winter jackets.

“There are so many possibilities in apparel,” Mr Benz said at Techtextil 2015. “Anywhere there is an overheating issue, we can help.”
