Technical fabric developer Polartec won the award for sports and activewear design at the fifth Global Fashion Awards run by trends forecasting organisation WGSN. It received the award at an event in London in mid-May.

The award was a celebration of Polartec’s continued innovation, the organisers said, marking its development from being (under the name Malden Mills) the producer of the original synthetic fleece fabric in the early 1980s to having a range of more than 300 different fabrics for outdoor apparel.

In reaction to receiving the award, Allison Spahr, Polartec’s global vice-president for design, said: “Being recognised and rewarded by such a widely respected global style institution like WGSN is praise indeed. We work closely with our customers, constantly innovating; researching and developing solutions specific to their needs and it’s great to win an award in recognition of that.”
