Google and Levi's to team up for ‘swipeable’ jeans

Google has used its annual developers’ conference to announce a partnership with Levi's that involves weaving parts of the denim from conductive textiles which will allow jeans to interact with devices.

Google’s Advanced Technology and Projects (ATAP) group did not give a time frame for Project Jaquard, but suggested it could mean phone calls could be answered or messages sent with a swipe of the fabric.

"We cannot expect global fashion industry to change just for us even though we're Google," said Google's head of technical programmes, Ivan Poupyrev. "We have to adapt to the textile industry."

The latest edition of WSA, available online as an ezine, takes an indepth look at the electro textiles sector.
