Sensoria, a wearable solutions company based in Redmond, Washingon, has announced that smart fitness socks it has spent four years developing are now available to the public.

The socks are embedded with proprietary textile sensors and are powered by a flexible and lightweight Bluetooth smart-enabled anklet that is paired with a mobile application to give wearers real-time updates on the distance, speed, ascent, descent, number of steps and other information while walking running or taking part in other sports.

“We’ve established a new technology standard for fitness and health trackers,” said the company’s chief executive and co-founder, Davide Vigano. “Our wearable system can help runners improve performance and avoid injury prone running styles.”

Consumers can buy a package comprising two pairs of smart socks, the electronic anklet, a USB charger, a dedicated mobile app for iPhone or Android and a web dashboard for $199. Two additional pairs of socks can be purchased for $49.
