EasyJet incorporates wearable tech into uniforms
Airline EasyJet is incorporating wearable tech into crew, ground crew and engineers’ uniforms as part of its 20th birthday celebrations, with trials starting early next year.
Cabin crew uniforms will feature LEDs on shoulders and illuminated hems to provide additional lighting in an emergency, LEDs on jacket lapels displaying information such as flight numbers and destinations and microphones to improve communication, while ground staff will have LEDS in jacket cuffs to help with aircraft movement.
Engineers will have LEDs in jacket hoods to illuminate work areas leaving hands free for inspections; in-built video cameras to allow for remote diagnosis of issues; and air quality sensor and barometer features.
UK-based smart textiles and micro-electronics specialist CuteCircuit will provide the technology.
Francesca Rosella, co-founder of CuteCircuit, said: “The cabin crew uniforms and engineers’ uniforms represent cutting edge developments in wearable technology, and are a first in the aviation industry.”
