Columbia Sportswear has announced that it will strengthen its partnership in 2016 with the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB) endurance event through four of its brands: Columbia, Mountain Hardwear, OutDry and Montrail.

The group began its partnership with the event in 2015 but will become the event’s main partner.

Franco Fogliato, the group’s general manager for Europe, said on announcing the development: “The Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc is an iconic event, bringing together 7,500 participants from more than 80 different countries, all of whom share the same passion for the outdoors as drives our company.”

Chief executive of one of the brands involved, OutDry, Luca Morlacchi, said he was very enthusiastic about the project, saying OutDry had always regarded extreme competitions as “an ideal opportunity to demonstrate the superiority of our waterproof, breathable technology”.

Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc is a single-stage mountain ultramarathon. It takes place once a year in the Alps over a distance of 166 kilometres across parts of France, Italy and Switzerland. With a total elevation gain of around 9,600 metres, it is widely regarded as one of the most difficult foot races in Europe.
