North America drives up sales at Columbia
US sportswear brand Columbia achieved sales of $388.8 million in the second quarter of 2016, a 2% increase in currency-neutral terms compared to the same period last year. Growth was driven by strong sales in North America.

“Our successful first half results were highlighted by solid growth from three of our four major brands and improved gross margins in a challenging global environment,” said Columbia Sportswear CEO Tim Boyle.

Sales in the US rose 8% to $228.8 million, supported by strong growth in direct-to-consumer sales. Canada saw a 27% increase in sales to $13.6 million. Sales in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) region were down 2% to $59.1 million and there was an 11% drop in sales to the Latin America, Asia Pacific region. Total sales for the region were $87.3 million with big losses in South Korea and Japan being partially offset by better performance in China.
