Italian yarn and chemicals maker Radici Group will have a presence in the stands as well as on track and field at the 2016 Rio Olympics in August.

As well as supplying yarns such as polyamide 6 and 6.6 for inclusion in sports apparel, Radici has won a contract to supply its Radiflam S flame-retardant polyamide 6 plastics for seating at five of the venues. Fans attending shooting, hockey and swimming events will be among those sitting on Radici seats during the Games.

Radici said on announcing the development that it had supplied Radiflam S materials for seating at eight venues for the 2014 World Cup, also hosted in Brazil, and that the success of those projects had helped it win orders for the Olympics too.
