Inditex to donate textile waste to Lenzing for new raw materials
Clothing group Inditex, parent company of fashion brands including Zara, has announced ongoing support for the development of technology to  recycle textiles and turn them into new raw materials.

At its 2016 annual general meeting in A Coruña on July 19, Inditex chairman, Pablo Isla, announced a new agreement between the group and plant-based textiles producer Lenzing. Under this agreement, the Austrian company will manufacture “premium textile raw materials” from textile waste generated by Inditex.

The two companies will start with a pilot project involving around 500 tonnes of waste but have said they aim to increase this to annual volume of 3,000 tonnes “within a few years”. Lenzing has said the higher volume will allow it to produce enough fabric to make 48 million garments.
