Former Nike chemistry head joins Hohenstein Institute America

Research and testing body the Hohenstein Institute has announced that John Frazier will be taking on the role of senior technical director in its North American division. He was previously senior director of chemistry at sportswear manufacturer Nike.

Mr Frazier will be based in Oregon and will oversee the implementation of green chemistry, textile and materials research, and innovation for Hohenstein’s footwear and apparel partners in North America. He will continue to serve in textile and apparel trade associations and to speak at industry events. 

“John’s impressive sustainability resume will make him an invaluable asset to the textile manufacturers, sourcers, and retailers here in North America,” said Ben Mead, managing director of Hohenstein Institute America. “He has proven expertise in many areas that can add product performance while still having a positive impact on a company’s sustainability profile.” 

During his time at Nike, Mr Frazier worked on areas such as greener chemistry, climate stability and water stewardship. He supervised the development and deployment of several sustainability and product stewardship programs. Among these were the Restricted Substance List (RSL), Manufacturing Restricted Substance List (MRSL) and the Global Water Quality Program, and the Green/Healthier Chemistry Program.
