Hohenstein doubles capacity for testing cooling performance

20/07/2017
Research and testing body the Hohenstein Institute has announced that it can now make use of a second WATson Heat Loss Tester machine, which will allow it to satisfy the demand for testing the cooling performance of textiles.

The group said the new machine will double its capacity to test sportswear and functional garments. It will also mean Hohenstein can provide testing results within about ten days.

WATson allows Hohenstein to measure the interaction between textiles and the human thermoregulation system in a range of climatic conditions and at different rates of setting. It does so by measuring small changes in the cooling sensation caused by evaporation on the surface of the skin. Hohenstein has said it only requires a textile sample measuring 20 x 25cm to provide this data.
