Hohenstein ups focus on medical textiles with new facility

16/05/2017
Research and testing body the Hohenstein Institute has established a new centre dedicated to medical textiles at its headquarters in Boennigheim, Germany.

The Hohenstein Health Centre will focus on clothing, textile products or processes which affect human health. It will be led by Professor Dirk Höfer, medical director and managing director of the Hohenstein Institute.

The research organisation explained that it is setting up this new facility in preparation for the new EU Directive on Medical Devices (MDR), which is coming into force this year. It predicts that this will “present new challenges for all textile companies operating in the medical textiles sector”.

Hohenstein added that the centre will develop and support medical expertise on textile products affecting human health, both those that are already on the market and those due to be launched. It will also serve to build links with companies in the healthcare sector that deal with medical textiles, and share expertise and new findings within the textile industry.
