VF Corporation has announced that its chief operating officer, Steve Rendle, will become chief executive on January 1, 2017. He will succeed Eric Wiseman in the role. Mr Wiseman has been VF’s chief executive since 2008; he will continue to serve as executive chairman of VF’s board of directors.

“Steve is the right person to serve as VF’s next chief executive as we begin our 118th year of business,” Eric Wiseman said at the time of the announcement. “We have a long-standing, rigorous and successful approach to succession planning. We’ve been working since 2008 to identify and prepare the right person to succeed me when the time comes. That time is now. Steve has been deeply involved in every aspect of the business, and he’s clearly ready for this role.”

Mr Rendle joined VF brand The North Face in 1999 and was brand president from 2004 to 2011. He later became group president for outdoor and action sports in the Americas.
