Fashion house Ralph Lauren has named David Lauren, son of its eponymous founder, as chief innovation officer, a newly-created position. He was responsible for the launch of the company’s connected bags and t-shirts

Mr Lauren has previously led the brand’s global advertising, marketing and communications operations, with a strong focus on digital and e-commerce efforts. During his time in this role, he oversaw the introduction of Ralph Lauren’s website and expansion into e-commerce. He also helped to implement an online customisation platform, touchscreens in store windows and a 4D runway show.

“Innovation has been important to our company from its earliest days and as we continue to build for the future, it is now essential to devote the full attention to one of our most talented and creative executives to nurture and promote innovation in everything we do,” said Ralph Lauren, chairman and chief creative officer of the company.

He added that the creation of the chief innovation officer position is part of a strategy to bring the brand into the future.
