Ralph Lauren’s Team USA uniforms highlight new dye technique
Clothing brand Ralph Lauren has unveiled the Team USA closing ceremony parade uniforms and clothing for the Olympic and Paralympics, due to take place in a spectator-free setting in Japan in July.

As part of its recently announced Color on Demand platform, Ralph Lauren partnered Dow to optimise the use of Ecofast Pure Sustainable Textile Treatment, a pre-treatment solution for that  reduces the amount of water, chemicals and energy used compared to traditional dye processes and will be used in the cotton items.

The Mirum Olympic Patch was developed in partnership with Natural Fiber Welding, a sustainable material science company that Ralph Lauren recently invested in. Its process “welds” short or staple cotton and cellulose fibres, including agricultural waste, to make high-performance yarns or fabrics.

Team USA’s Closing Ceremony Uniform includes a graphic white drawstring jacket and striped belt made from Unifi’s Repreve, recycled polyester derived from plastic water bottles; a classic white Polo shirt, shoes and mask made from US grown cotton; and a slim white denim pant with a Mirum back-patch.

David Lauren, chief innovation and branding officer at Ralph Lauren, said: “As we come together to celebrate and compete, we must also embrace our responsibility to protect the planet we all call home. As part of this, we are proud to continue to invest in and scale sustainability innovations — dressing our nation’s best and brightest athletes in timeless clothing that has been consciously created.”

Selections from the collection will be available for purchase online and from select stores from June. Ralph Lauren has been an official outfitter of Team USA since 2008 and revenues from the sales of the collections support Team USA.
