Report discusses Indian mega textile parks

16/02/2017
A report commissioned by India’s textiles ministry has recommended the building of a series of mega textile parks across the country.

The report said that these parks should occupy a minimum of 1,000 acres of land and be located in “industrial corridors” or near to seaports and airports to facilitate logistical operations.

It added that the facilities should have readymade factory sheds, warehouses, incubation centres and testing labs to allow them to operate to peak efficiency.

The scheme should be supported by entrepreneurs, industry associations and the national government, the report suggested.

It cautioned that the establishment of these parks was being held back by an inability to attract the right investors and a lack of coordination among those involved in relation to material sourcing and marketing.
