Sinterama and Polygiene announce new development

Odour control technology provider Polygiene has worked with polyester filament yarn producer Sinterama to make a new version of its Newlife recycled fibre with permanent odour control. In this case, the odour management functionality is built in a fibre level rather than the standard topical application during finishing.

Newlife offers customers 100% post-consumer recycled, anti-bacterial yarns. Sinterama and Polygiene have said that introducing odour control at fibre level will make it possible for finished garment manufacturers and brands to offer longer-lasting garments to consumers.

Polygiene’s Permanent Odor Control technology is a silver chloride derived from recycled silver from electronic waste. It inhibits the growth of unpleasant smells in clothing arising from microbes such as bacteria and fungus. Bad smells develop when odour-causing bacteria settle into the fabric, mix with sweat and multiply.

Sinterama’s Newlife is certified as a source of polyester filament yarns from 100% post-consumer PET bottles, sourced and processed into a polymer through a mechanical rather than a chemical process and spun into yarn in Italy.

Polygiene chief executive, Christian von Uthmann, said on announcing the development: “We’re excited to begin working with Sinterama as this will open new doors for us in categories where we see large growth potential.”
