New Patagonia workwear collection contains hemp

07/08/2017
Outdoor brand Patagonia has unveiled a new collection of workwear made from a material that blends industrial hemp, recycled polyester and organic cotton.

It features the company’s Iron Forge Hemp canvas, made from a blend of 55% industrial, hemp, 27% recycled polyester and 18% organic cotton. Patagonia has said it is more durable, abrasion resistant and comfortable that conventional cotton duck canvas.

The collection features 13 different apparel styles. They are cut for unrestricted movement and have a roomier fit than the brand’s other styles, which offers ample room for layering.

Eight of the styles are made using its Iron Forge Hemp canvas, and these are manufactured at a Fair Trade Certified facility. The other styles are made from synthetic and natural fibres.

Patagonia has been a vocal supporter of industrial hemp. In 2016, it said hemp had the potential to make the textile industry more socially and environmentally responsible. Several of its collections contain a small number of apparel items that contain hemp, but it has stepped up its use of the material with this new workwear collection.
