Polartec introduces new fill insulation product
09/10/2017
The company describes the product as “a soft and pliable matrix of polyester engineered with a proprietary hollow fibre construction that is softer and more durable, forming thousands of air pockets that continuously capture and contain body heat”.
It has said the development will help garment manufacturers offer wearers “a resilient, equalised thermal layer” between colder air on the outside and a warmer temperature on the inside.
Polartec has used a proprietary controlled melt process to bond the hollow fibres, increasing durability and drapability, eliminating the need for scrims or other stabilisers. It says this gives Power Fill “unmatched warmth and design versatility”, allowing it to be used in a wide range of finished products. The polyester fibre’s inherent hydrophobic properties also work to ensure that the new fill insulation material can resist moisture absorption and dry quickly, while maintaining a high warmth-to-weight ratio.
Customers are already viewing Power Fill in weights of 60, 80, 100 and 135 grammes per square-metre. Polartec chief executive, Gary Smith, said he was sure the material will help these customers design better solutions “for the coldest conditions”.
