Polartec to kit out new elite cycling team
Textile solutions provider Polartec has offered details of the first kit it will provide to a new cycling team launched by champion cyclist Alberto Contador.

The Polartec-Kometa Continental team is backed by the Alberto Contador Foundation. Its riders will wear innovative apparel made using Polartec fabrics. The garments have been designed following close collaboration between Polartec fabric experts, the team’s riders and Alberto Contador himself.

The riders will have a choice of three different jerseys, depending on the conditions in which they are racing. In temperate conditions, they will use the Power Stretch jersey, designed to wick away moisture and offer breathability.

Polartec has used its Delta fabric to create a jersey for hot conditions. It has a special knit and bi-thread construction that helps regulate the body’s natural cooling system.

The Rain Jersey features Polartec’s Power Shield Pro fabric, which repels water as well as breathing and stretching.

For the team’s bib short, Polartec has used a combination of two versions of its Power Stretch material and its Delta fabric. It has said this combination ensures durability and comfort, while the four-way stretch of the fabric allows the bib to move with the rider’s motion.

For cold conditions, it has developed a full-leg bibtight featuring its Wind Pro and Power Shield Pro fabric, which protects against the wind, rain and cold.

The baselayers in the kit are made from Polartec’s lightweight Power Wool fabric. They can be worn alone or layered with other Polartec pieces. Power Wool’s bi-plated construction sees the wicking merino wool on the surface touching the skin, with the durable polyester on the outside of the fabric to deal with harsh conditions.

Polartec has also developed a range of accessories for the team, including arm warmers and shoe covers, as well as garments for riders on the podium.
