Saucony marks 120 years of making shoes
Specialist running shoe brand Saucony is marking its 120th anniversary this month and will hold a series of events throughout 2018 to celebrate this milestone.

The first Saucony shoe was created in 1898 in Kutztown, Pennsylvania. The brand, now part of the Wolverine Worldwide Group, took its name from Saucony Creek, which flows through the area.

“This year is a special one for us, a chance for the entire Saucony family to reflect on the achievements of the past 120 years, and to celebrate our relentless dedication to the sport of running,” said Amanda Reiss, chief marketing officer of Saucony. “We strive to continually inspire all types of runners, not only by providing the best gear on the planet, but also by enabling an unforgettable and confident running experience.”

She added that the brand will continue to seek new product innovations, such as its Everun and Isofit technologies, while also paying tribute to its heritage and history through its Originals collection.

Saucony will organise a series of events in 2018 to mark its 120th anniversary. The first of these took place at the start of March and saw the launch of the Shadow 5000 EVR shoe (pictured), which is based on its Shadow 5000 shoe model, first released in the 1980s.

The updated version features a full-length Everun cushioned midsole, a breathable knit upper and a leather heel counter. The limited-edition product has been made available on Saucony’s website and through selected retail partners.
