Kathmandu to buy outdoor footwear brand Oboz

22/03/2018
New Zealand-based retailer and brand Kathmandu has announced it has agreed to acquire outdoor footwear company Oboz.

Oboz was founded in 2007 and sells footwear for backpacking, hiking, travel and winter and outdoor pursuits. Its primary revenue stream is from wholesale sales to outdoor retailers in North America.

Kathmandu has had a partnership with Oboz for over 10 years and is currently the exclusive retailer of Oboz products in Australia and New Zealand.

“The acquisition of Oboz enables the Kathmandu Group to accelerate our international growth, and diversifies our product mix, geography and channels to market,” said Xavier Simonet, Kathmandu CEO.

He expressed his admiration for Oboz’s success in North America, describing it as “an innovative and authentic outdoor brand”. He added that after many years of close collaboration, now is the right time to deepen the relationship between the companies.

For his part, John Connelly, president and founder of Oboz, said: “Kathmandu and Oboz share many common values: passion for the outdoors, focus on product design and innovation, customer-first culture, collaborative team work and strong emphasis on sustainability.”

Mr Connelly will continue to lead Oboz and will report directly to Mr Simonet.
