Record year for Kathmandu

03/10/2018
New Zealand-based retailer and brand Kathmandu has reported sales of NZ$497.4 million ($330 million) for the 2018 financial year (ended July 31), an increase of 11.7% compared to the previous year.

Its net profit for this period was 32.9% higher at $22 million.

During the year, Kathmandu completed the acquisition of US footwear brand Oboz. The two companies had already been partners for more than 10 years, with Kathmandu the exclusive retailer of Oboz products in Australia and New Zealand.

Referring to the acquisition, Xavier Simonet, Kathmandu CEO, said: “The Oboz acquisition provides us with the opportunity to accelerate our international growth, and diversify our product mix, geography, and channels to market. Kathmandu and Oboz are well aligned in core principles of brand development, innovation, quality, customer service, and sustainability.”

It has also allowed Kathmandu to introduce its wholesale business in North America. It will launch in this market at the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market, which takes place from November 8-11 in Denver.

Kathmandu has also offered some insight into its sustainability performance during the 12-month period. Among the achievements it highlighted were becoming the first brand in Australasia to be Fair Labour Association (FLA) certified; making it 80% towards its zero landfill waste target; and recycling 6.7 million bottles and using the recovered material in its products.
