Puma eyes return to basketball market

23/03/2018
Sportswear brand Puma has said it will rejoin the basketball market as part of its efforts to grow in the US and in China.

It plans to partner with athletes and celebrities linked to basketball, insisting that basketball shoes still dominate US footwear sales. In recent years, Nike and Under Armour have reported a shift away from basketball performance shoes to retro styles.

Puma’s return to basketball after more than 15 years comes as it seeks to grow its presence in the US market and in Greater China, two areas where the sport is very popular.

This was one of the announcements made at the brand’s capital markets day. It also told investors it expects currency-adjusted net sales to grow by around 10% of average per year until 2022.
