Puma jumps back into basketball market

22/06/2018
Sportswear brand Puma has marked its return to the basketball market with the signing of a number of highly-rated young players.

They included Deandre Ayton, who was selected first in the National Basketball Association (NBA) draft, an annual event which sees college players selected by the league’s professional teams. Puma also secured the player picked second, Marvin Bagley. Their final signing was Zhaire Smith, picked 16th.

These signings mean Puma will have endorsement deals with players in the NBA for the first time in two decades. The last player they signed was Vince Carter in 1998.

In addition, the brand is expected to appoint rapper and entrepreneur Jay Z (real name Shawn Carter) as creative director for its basketball-focused marketing campaigns.
