X-Bionic promises garments “as individual as a fingerprint”
Swiss sports apparel developer X-Bionic is to offer top athletes individualised functional clothing, with customised “functional zones” incorporating, to “millimetre accuracy”, textile technologies such as cooling, insulation, thermal regulation, compression, stabilisation or protection.

The company has invited top athletes to make an appointment to start the process. This will involve detailed measuring, including thermoreceptor tests, sonograms, observation of sweat formation and a 360-degree all-around measurement of sweat distribution during a 45-minute stress test. What follows is “zoned measurement” of thermal changes during the stress phase, sensory checks, and the recording of “motion tendencies”.

The amount of sweat absorbed by the garments the athlete wears during the assessment is weighed to the hundredth gramme.

At the end of the analytical process, X-Bionic will use the data it has collected to create a personal avatar of each athlete and put together “optimum technologies” to suit each person and then create three garments incorporating those technologies in just the right area of each piece.

Appointments will start at the beginning of 2019 and the package will cost each athlete €2,000, which will include three customised garments.
