Cone Denim turns to Refibra for more sustainable denim

05/06/2018
Denim specialist Cone Denim is preparing to unveil a new range of sustainable denim fabrics made using Lenzing’s Refibra lyocell fibres.

Lenzing launched the Refibra brand in February 2017. It is based on the group’s Tencel fibre, with the addition of cotton scraps and wood. The Refibra fibres are produced using Lenzing’s well established Tencel production process.

“Denim consumers want authentic yet innovative products that maximise comfort, style and performance,” said Kara Nicholas, vice president of design and marketing at Cone Denim. “They also want to know that their favourite jeans are responsibly made and remain sustainable at the end of their lifecycle when finally discarded”.

Cone Denim’s new denim fabrics will be made at its mills in North America. They will feature a fibre identification tag, allowing brands and retailers to verify that their denims contain genuine Refibra fibres.

The company will present its new denim collection at the Kingpins New York exhibition (June 6-7).
