Product milestone for the Responsible Wool Standard
Non-profit organisation Textile Exchange has announced that the first products certified against the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) are now available and that many more will soon come to market.

The final draft of the RWS was released in June 2016, having been jointly developed by Textile Exchange and retailer H&M. The voluntary global standard addresses the welfare of sheep and of the land on which they graze.

Textile Exchange has said adoption of the standard has steadily increased across key wool growing and processing countries since its creation. There are currently RWS certified farmers in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the United States, Argentina and Uruguay, as well as certified manufacturers across the world.

H&M launched its first RWS certified products in September 2018 in stores dedicated to its Arket brand. They feature wool from Uruguay and Australia. US women’s clothing brand Eileen Fisher has released a range of garments made of wool from New Zealand and Argentina, while the RWS certified products from UK-based retail group Marks & Spencer feature wool from Wools of New Zealand farms.
