Fair Wear Foundation says collaboration drives change

They raised a complaint about unauthorised sub-contracting involving as many as ten different companies working on behalf of their official supply chain partners in China. An examination of the problem revealed payment issues and excessive overtime. Now, though, overtime is within the range allowed by law and all sub-contractors’ employees know how to read their pay-slips correctly to make sure they are being fairly paid.
OSC and Haglöfs received the award at the 2018 Fair Wear Foundation Conference in Amsterdam on November 20.
Two other outdoor brands received recognition for their efforts to make working life fairer for people who work for their supply chain partners: Ortovox for breaking the six-day working week norm in Asia; and Vaude for developing a monitoring system for the whole of its supply chain.
Dutch minister for foreign trade and development, Sigrid Kaag, attended the event and said in an opening address that she had a particular concern about child labour. She said: “We have failed the 150 million children that are currently working. We have a shared responsibility to fix this.”
