Gore to present more environmentally friendly laminate at ISPO
05/12/2018
The laminates feature a new recycled and solution-dyed polyester backer and durable water-repellent treatment on the face fabric that is free of polyfluorocarbons (PFCs).
Approximately 4,000 recycled plastic bottles are used to make 1,000 metres of the new backer textile.
Gore announced in February 2017 that it would eliminate PFCs entirely from the entire lifecycle of its consumer fabrics portfolio. It has said this launch is a reflection of “continued growth in that direction”.
It said the new laminate technology has come through testing “with excellent results” and explained that it uses proprietary test methods to make its evaluations. These tests are conducted in Gore’s labs and rain room, which simulate the conditions in which consumers will wear garments that incorporate the laminate. It also ran extensive field trials in Scotland and the US with users engaged in hiking, outdoor working and urban commuting).
Results have demonstrated that more than 90% of the test users were satisfied with the performance of the garments.
