Gore Fabrics celebrates responsibility progress

Among the achievements Gore Fabrics highlighted was its “significant progress” towards the elimination of PFCs of Environmental Concern from its products. In 2017, it announced a goal to eliminate them from the entire lifecycle of its consumer products by the end of 2023. At the start of last year, it reached its first key milestone in this regard with the introduction of the first Gore-Tex laminated to feature a durable water repellency (DWR) treatment that was free of them.
The division also explained that it has increased the use of recycled and solution-dyed materials in Gore-Tex products, and has taken steps to extend the life of its products. This has included by educating its customers about how to care for their products.
The 2018 report contained an update about Gore’s for Social Responsibility (GSR) programme, which it began rolling out three years ago in effort to align its partners on social responsibility goals. The aim is to join forces with customers and suppliers to improve the lives of workers that make finished products from its fabric products.
Bernhard Kiehl, Gore Fabrics’ sustainability leader, said: “In 2018, we achieved ‘Code alignment’ with all our consumer-oriented fabrics licensees, meaning hundreds of Gore customers have either signed Gore’s Guidelines for Social Responsibility or provided a Code of Conduct of their own that meets industry standards. We have also made significant progress towards the same goal with our business partners making apparel to protect professionals.”
