New Balance aims for larger US manufacturing footprint

Sportswear brand New Balance is to set up a new advanced manufacturing facility in the city of Methuen, Massachusetts, according to reports in local media.

The facility would include manufacturing, research and development and 3D-printing operations. A meeting of the local City Council recently took place with a view to allowing the project to move forward.

"New Balance is excited about the opportunity to expand our domestic manufacturing footprint in the Merrimac Valley through our intent to purchase 596 Lowell Street in Methuen," said Amy Dow, New Balance’s director of public relations and government affairs.

She added that the factory would compliment the manufacturing facility that New Balance already operates in the nearby city of Lawrence. Should everything proceed as scheduled, operations at the Methuen site would begin within 12 to 18 months, according to Ms Dow.
