Fibre manufacturer Unifi has tightened its ties to the plastic bottle value chain (source of its Repreve recycled polyester) by announcing Pepsi chief executive, Al Carey, as non-executive chairman of its board of directors.

Mr Carey joined Unifi’s board a year ago and has said he views finding good ways to use recycled PET as a driver for growth for many brands and retailers, as well as an important part of the move towards a circular economy.

Commenting on Mr Carey’s new role, Unifi chief executive, Kevin Hall, said: “In this expanded capacity, he will be leveraging his vast commercial experience, commitment to creating more sustainable supply chains, and ability to form partnerships with brands and retailers, which are the key pillars of Unifi’s growth strategy.”
