The first of these is TruFlexx, a stretch fibre made from 100% polyester. Unifi has said it eliminates the need for spandex, which the company explained limits the recyclability of a fabric when it is knitted into it. TruFlexx can replace spandex in the 5-10% content range for comfort-stretch knits. It is said to offer shape retention with less compression while also improving moisture management.
To tackle the issue of static for apparel and home textiles, Unifi is launching its TruClean anti-static fibre. It is available with Repreve recycled fibre and its applications include apparel, pet bedding, upholstery, curtains and automotive.
The most significant product on display will be a Repreve nylon staple fibre, which can be used in spun yarns. Unifi has said it can improve the hand feel and strength of fabrics and can be employed to add effects such as cooling.
“We believe that true innovation starts in the fibre, and our goal is to provide even more options to inspire our customers to innovate at the fibre level to achieve sustainable, high-performing products,” said Richard Gerstein, Unifi’s chief marketing and innovation officer.
