Unifi appoints sustainability vice-president

Fibre manufacturer Unifi has appointed Helen Sahi as its vice -president for global corporate sustainability. Ms Sahi took up her new role on September 17.

Ms Sahi has nearly three decades of experience helping companies including Avery Dennison Corporation and Bank of America set and achieve sustainability strategies and goals. Unifi said it was impressed by her track record of building effective partnerships with external organisations, including campaign groups, to support and advance corporate sustainability efforts.
 
Chief marketing and innovation officer, Richard Gerstein, said: “We look forward to Helen further developing our relationships with chief sustainability officers throughout the textile and apparel supply chain and advancing the use of sustainability metrics in our operations, product line management and innovation initiatives.”
 
Helen Sahi said on taking up the appointment that she believed Unifi has “a great sustainability story to tell”. She highlighted in particular a customer recognition programme called ‘Champions of Sustainability’ that the company has put in place, and said its Repreve range has become “the leading global branded recycled fibre”. She applauded the aim of transforming 30 billion plastic bottles into Repreve fibres by 2022.
